Newsletter
Welcome
Welcome to our first sporadic newsletter. Sorry
this will not be a regular occurence, unless we get lots of
free time, which I doubt, what with cage cleaning, vets appointments,
medications, dealing with the public, rat health queries, fundraising
and trying to earn enough money to pay the bills!
CavyRescue in the News
By the time you read this you may or may not
have seen the article in Closer Magazine under the headline
"Rats ruined our Sex Lives!" Well that was about us.
Not exactly what we agreed to in writing and we did threaten
to sue them as it was a real hatchet job and set our credibility
back several years. The only upside was a donation to CavyRescue,
but we still get funny looks in the street!
We are also getting lots of coverage locally
on a number of fronts. We were interviewed by BBC Radio Kent,
Meridian News, and KMFM here in Kent about our Recycling appeal,
our new site features and also our guide to live capture, and
why you shouldn't use an exterminator. Sales of our recommended
live catch traps went up which is a good sign....
New Site Features
We always struggle building a shop for CavyRescue
Supporters as we are never sure what to add and what to leave
out and plus it is a lot of hard work building one. Well, now
we use the services of a third party, Buy.at, who run many a
large charity "web store" which donates a proportion
of the sales from the website to the charity. We have added
a link here :

New Articles
We have added a few more articles to the site.
They are listed below. If you have something to say or want
to share your experiences with us then please feel free to send
something to
us and we will endeavour to add it to the site.
We are looking for authors to provide articles on any small
animal topic. We want to the site to offer you a rounded view
on issues not just ours, so get scribbling....
New articles :
Introducing
rats to one another
As rats are sociable animals, no matter how much attention you
give them, they will be happier if they have a (same sex) friend
or two living with them.
Fatal
food allergies in rats
Running a rat rescue we come across many different illnesses
– however, Rosie was a first.
Use
this technique and your rat will trust you
Is your rattie an adopted rat? Were they either a mistreated
lab rat, or picked up from the Rat Shelter? Is your rat an older
rat who have been traumatized and are terrified of people?
How
to deal with Rats and mice humanely
As winter gets underway , mice enter houses more often and rats
are seen in increasing frequency in peoples gardens.

New Products
One product we bought recently was "Rattie
Secrets" an excellent E-book by Diana Davidson. We bought
it to get some ideas for our own book which we have been thinking
about writing for a few years now but we never get round to
it. Anyway , Diana's book is fantastic and has some great ideas
for your ratties! We wholeheartedly recommend it. Click
here for more Information on Rattie Secrets.
Live Rodent Traps and Rat Detectors. We have
recently been conducting a lot of publicity into the use of
Glue Traps or Rat Poison. In response to this we have been asked
where people can buy rodent friendly live capture traps. We
use Alana
Ecology as our supplier of these any many other
great products.
We also bought our Bat "Rat" Detector
from them too! It is great fun listening in on their conversations.
It is best fior use where you have more than one rattie as they
communicate to each other in a high frequency squeak which thankfully
you can't hear with the human ear alone. With 30 rats here,
we'd never get any sleep with all that gossip going on in the
Rat Room! Click
here to visit Alana Ecology.
