Welcome
Welcome to the 5th issue of our newsletter! We
have lots to mention including the results of our Ratless Rat
Show competition
Ratless Rat Show
Results
Well, the votes have been counted and it was an extremely close
call as all the entries got such high votes due to their wonderfully
cute photos and heart warming stories.
Before we announce the winners, we want to say well done and
thank you to every one who entered - we had many a tear or a
smile when reading them. We had nearly 1,000 votes from ratty
lovers and so many nice comments from people who’d read the
stories and voted.
Each entry deserved a prize and hopefully next year when we
run the competition again we’ll have more to give away. In the
meantime, all the stories and pictures will be kept on our own
Hall
of Fame on the website.
So..(big drum roll..) here they are..
The Overall Winner
The photo and story of real characters Bing
& Bong (Mum: Lucy Cole) was the overall winner
– well done!
Runners up
The cute photos and details sweet antics meant lots of votes
for Ebony
and Dotty
who came in second and third place respectively. Sadly, Kaz
Smith – both the girls’ Mum - has told us that Dotty is no longer
with us. Dotty will be remembered by many of us who followed
her antics on the Fancy-Rat forum.
The Rescue Rat of the Year
All the stories and photos of the rescue ratties in the show
touched the hearts of the voters but it was little cutie Brave
Bob (Mum: Kerry May) who got the most.
Runners up
Bianca
– the little rescue rat who was rescued by Kerry Elverstone
and has been through so much in her short life – came in at
second place and Nellie
who came to Jack Carslake from Furry Friends Rescue came in
at third place, just one vote under Bianca.
The overall winners - Bing & Bong - win a real Pandora’s
Box of ratty treats…a giant playball, a luxury designer hammock,
a year’s free subscription to Pet Focus magazine, and to keep
their tummy full, rat nuggets and ratty treats (chocolate drops
and chew sticks). Plus various sprays to keep them happy and
healthy!
The four ratty runner ups in both categories all win a great
ratty goodie bag each that includes food, various ratty treats
and sprays
Our Rescue Rat of the Year winner - Brave Bob - wins a luxurious
Freddy Savic cage as well as a designer hammock and lots of
food stuffs, treats and sprays.
(Sadly, Brave Bob has since passed away since the competition
started and her very sad Mum, Kerry May, has very kindly donated
the cage to CavyRescue so that some of rats here can re-start
their lives in luxury. A big thank you to Kerry for such a generous
gift and our heartfelt condolences for her loss of her precious
girl).
Finally, well done again to the Winners and thank you again
to everyone who entered their ratty. We’ll be running a Ratless
Rat Show again next year to celebrate World Rat Day 2007, so
if you didn’t win this time, please try again next year!
CavyRescue in the News
We got a mention in the Daily Telegraph this
week as a great place to visit for kids over Easter! Not here
but at HMS Belfast who were running a Hunt the Rat Competition
instead of a normal easter egg hunt. We were due to give a talk
on the day but sadly ratties being ratties meant we couldn't
go.

Recycling Appeal
If you are lucky enough to have recently bought
or were given a new mobile 'phone, then why not help the animals
here by recycling your old one?
Many people throw out their old 'phones without realising
that they could be put to good use. At the rescue – where our
annual bill is around £15,000 - we can recycle them to
help raise funds for the shelter. For example, even just one
person saving an old mobile 'phone for us to recycle will pay
for enough bedding to last three days!
It couldn't be easier to do. Simply email, text or 'phone through
your address to us and we will send you a Freepost bag in which
you can put your 'phone and then send off for recycling. It
doesn't even matter if the 'phone no longer works, it can still
be recycled. It won't cost you a penny to do but will help us
to save lives.
We can also recycle your old printer cartrdges too (all types
except Epsons)
So, if you have an old mobile ‘phone or used printer cartridge
that you no longer want and you would like to help us then please
email your address to: cavyrescue@yahoo.co.uk , call 07932 750271
or visit www.cavyrescue.co.uk
