Campaign : Pets at Home
At CavyRescue one of our aims is
to educate organisations who deal with animals on better healthcare
and welfare.
In 2004 we started our Pet Shop Watch campaign and successfully
met with Pets At Home to discuss issues arising from various
research we’d carried out nationwide into their stores. Here
is a diary of events:
JANUARY 2005 - OUR MEETING.
While our Mystery Shop exercise is ongoing, this is just to
update you on our meeting with the pet store in December 2004.
We had a very long meeting with them and we feel that a lot
of our comments were taken on board. Certainly, on a visit to
a local branch, there were noticeable changes. The company are
also updating their staff manuals so that a high standard of
pet and customer care will be maintained across the board
FEBRUARY 2005 - RAT CARE SHEETS.
Pets At Home have very kindly allowed us to comment on their
rats care sheet that should be given to everyone buying a rat.
MARCH 2005 - SOME GREAT NEWS! NO MORE WOODCHIPS!
Pets At Home have issued us a statement re: their Rat Starter
Kits. They say...
"At Pets at Home Ltd we are currently
reviewing our small animal product range. We are pleased to
announce that the woodchips that are currently included in our
rat starter kit will be replaced with safebed paper shavings
from now on. We take health care issues very seriously and are
grateful to Cavy Rescue and rat owners generally who have made
some very valuable comments and suggestions"
OCTOBER 2005 – ONGOING FEEDBACK.
We now have a mutually beneficial relationship with the Pets
At Home Head Office - any concerns or questions we have or ask
on behalf of someone else are dealt with promptly. They have
also helped us by suggesting ways we can achieve our aims and
with ongoing liaison.
