Virkon
Pet Virkon proved effective against VHD
One of the most devastating diseases
in rabbits is Viral Haemorrhagic Disease, or VHD. It is highly
contagious, and generally fatal - 95 per cent of rabbits which
catch it will die.
Poor hygiene is an important factor in the spread of the disease,
and keeping a rabbit's hutch, cage or run clean is essential.
A product should be used which will give animals the maximum
protection possible.
Antec International, the leading international infection control
specialists, have developed a cleaner and disinfectant specifically
for the pet market; Pet Virkon. This, says the company, has
been proved to be effective against all the viruses harmful
to animals, including those which cause VHD.
VHD is most commonly passed from animal to animal by droppings,
by direct contact between rabbits, or by contact with contaminated
feed bowls, bedding and hutches. All these, says Antec, can
be cleaned and disinfected by using Pet Virkon, applied either
by sponging or with a trigger spray bottle.
Although Pet Virkon is a very effective disinfectant, it is
entirely safe to use, for the environment, for animals and for
owners. Handlers are advised to wash their hands in Pet Virkon
solution before and after handling rabbits, to avoid picking
up and transmitting infection.
