Runner to run a rat race fund raiser
Glasgow man, Colin Dalglish, from Corkerhill will be running
a half-marathon for rats in this years Great Scottish Run -
and is looking for sponsors.
Colin (40) will be running in aid of CavyRescue – the UK’s
first dedicated rodent rescue - on Sunday September 3rd - with
wife Karen in the crowd supporting him.
Colin and Karen have rats of their own who they are devoted
to and wanted to do their bit by helping the rats and other
furries at the charity’s rescue centre.
Colin says: “'I’d always quite fancied keeping rats (more intelligent
and friendlier than hamsters), but it wasn't until we got married
that I got a couple - Salt and Pepper. From then on it was a
slippery slope involving bigger cages (ferret cages have loads
of room and space to climb) and more rats.
“Our latest addition to the family is Ben – a rescue rat. Ben
doesn't seem to like other rats, so he has his own little penthouse,
and gets out a lot to get handled. He's got a great wee personality
and doesn't chew furniture, and seems to like watching TV!”
Colin adds: “Rats get such a bad press and this makes fund
raising particularly difficult for the charities who rescue,
rehabilitate and rehome them. That is why we decided to help
CavyRescue - not only to raise them much needed funds, but to
raise awareness of what wonderful companions rats make.”
On the day, Colin will be cheered on in the crowd by Karen
who will be wearing a CavyRescue T-shirt. So, if you are going
along to support, look out for Karen and give Colin an extra
big cheer!
If you would like to sponsor Colin running this half marathon,
please send a cheque made payable to CavyRescue to: PO Box 532,
Rochester, Kent, ME1 9AT (please write “Glasgow Run” on the
back of the cheque).
About CavyRescue:
CavyRescue (registered charity number 1111583) was set up in
1999 by husband and wife team Jason and Stella Hulott. They
have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed over 2,600 small furries
(guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils), now specialising
in rats. Their aim is to educate individuals and organisations
on small animal healthcare and welfare and we regularly run
successful campaigns to this effect.
About the Great Scottish Run on Sunday September 3rd:
This is a very special year as it is the 25th Anniversary of
this hugely popular event. Last year an astonishing 19,326 runners
entered and it is hoped that even more people will run this
year. The race takes runners past some of the city’s most famous
attractions, and will feature the hugely popular run over the
Kingston Bridge, before finishing in Glasgow Green.
