Ratless Rat Show Entries
Dru
Dru has been through so much in her life, especially this year,
which I why I think she deserves to win! I got my first rats
in January 2005 from a breeder, but after being on the fancy
rats forum and seeing how many rats there were in need of a
good home, and being as I had a cage big enough for 9 rats,
I thought I would offer a home to a couple of rescues. I contacted
Stella at Cavyrescue who told me of two little does that were
staying with Emma who fosters for Jackie Carter at GBH, so I
got in touch with her. When I went to see them, there was Dru
- a mink hoody and Anya - a black berkshire, I think they'd
already had quite a few homes and were only 7-8 weeks old when
I took them home with me in February 2005. The introductions
between Willow and Faith and Dru and Anya went fantastically
well and they were all in the same cage the next day. Unfortunately,
the same couldn't be said for the introduction between me and
her and she was a bit of a biter!! But, over time we've come
to a mutual understanding! Once out of the cage, she's the loveliest
little ratlet who wouldn't dream of biting you.
At the beginning of this year, Dru developed a tumour which
grew quite quickly. I took her to the vet who was not very hopeful
at all as to her chances of survival. When I got the call later
on that afternoon to say that she'd come through the operation,
I was sooooo happy. Unfortunately a few days after she came
home, Anya passed away very suddenly, so poor Dru found herself
without her original cage mate. She then picked up a respiratory
infection a couple of weeks later, but after a week's treatment,
she got the all clear. It's been a month or so now and as you
can see from the photos, her lumpectomy has healed up beautifully,
she's still gorgeous and she's back to being her usual self!!
Which is such great news after her having gone through so much
- getting some sort of award in this competition would be the
icing on the cake.
