Manny

When people talk about their heart rats, it makes me think that’s what Manny is. All my rats past and present are special to me and I love them so much, but I believe that Manny came to me days before I lost my darling rat Mitts and her boyfriend Pob within 2 days of each other, so that he could help my heart to heal. Zemmi had arrived just before and his job was to make me laugh and smile again. Manny seemed to keep vigil over Mitts & Pob’s cage until it was time for them to go, then kept a close eye on me until I was starting to feel stronger again. He then seemed to become a young rat, ready to play and be silly. He’s licked tears off my face when I’ve cried and bruxed me when I was upset over some bad news. He seems to worry about things and after I chat with him about what I think it might be upsetting him, he perks up. I say he is the most complex non-human I’ve ever shared my life with. He’s like a pussy-cat the way he loves being stroked and fussed. It’s his and Zemmi’s first birthday on Friday and I hope they get to share 2nd and 3rd birthdays with me and each other.
