CavyRescue Adoption Contract
The Home for Unwanted and Abandoned Rodents
The Adopter agrees that he/she:

(1) will care for the animals in the most humane manner;

(2) will keep the animals as household pets in Adopter’s own home away from draughts and direct sunlight;

(3) will provide adequate food, water, shelter, supplies, care, affection and attention for the animals;

(4) will promptly obtain veterinary care if the animal has an ailment, injury or illness that Adopter is not able to care for properly;

(5) will not allow the animal to breed, be used for vivisection nor in any inhumane way;

(6) will not abandon, sell, give away, dispose of, turn over to or relinquish custody or possession of the animal except to return the animal to CavyRescue;

(7) will only use bedding recommended by CavyRescue and never use sawdust or woodshavings; (the recommended bedding includes wood based cat littler such as Biocatolet; Supreme Carefresh; or Ecopetbed – all readily available from pet shops or online)

(8) is in the financial position to afford vets bills, if necessary

(9) will spend a total of at least half an hour per day playing with the rat/s

(10) will never go on holiday and leave the animal/s unattended

Adopter further agrees that if, for any reason, he/she does not wish to keep the animal or cannot abide by all of the terms of this Contract, that Adopter will promptly return the animal to CavyRescue.

In order to ensure that the animals is receiving adequate care, CavyRescue shall have the right, by prior arrangement, to inspect the animals’ new home sometime during the first six months of adoption.

CavyRescue, as a continuing condition of the Contract and obligation resulting from the adoption of the above described animal from CavyRescue, agrees that Cavyrescue:

(1) will accept the animal back, and keep and care for the animal for the rest of the animal’s natural life, or adopt the animal to another adopter with the same terms as this adoption, should the animal be returned for any reason;

(2) will remain available to the Adopter for ongoing advice as needed regarding the animal;

PRIOR TO CONSIDERING ANY ANIMAL FOR ADOPTION, WE WILL ASK YOU THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS – please note that while the questions may seem personal, they are necessary to ensure that the animal is going to a suitable home:

1. Have you ever had an animal of the same species before?

2. If so, how many and what age were they when they died? What was the cause of death?

3. Do you have any other animals/pets in your home? If so, what are they?

4. Do you have young children? If so, do they understand that animals are not playthings and you agree that the animals will never be left unsupervised with them?

5. Do you have suitable housing for the rat? If so, please describe cage type and measurements

6. If you live in rented accommodation, have you checked with your landlord that rats are allowed as pets under the terms of your contract with him?

7. Are you in full time employment or are you a student? If not, how will you pay unexpected vets bills?

8. How much time every day will you have to play with the animal/s?

9. If the animal is for a child (under 18), do you, as an adult, agree to take full responsibility for the care of the animal and ensure that it is regularly fed, has fresh water, lots of love and care, plus is regularly cleaned out?

10. Who will look after the animal if you go on holiday?
